Chiefs LB Thomas decided to follow Bruschi and retire this week

The same day the New England Patriots lost their “perfect player” Tedy Bruschi, the Kansas City Chiefs got know that they would not have inside linebacker Zach Thomas playing for them this season.

According to a report by Adam Schefter on ESPN's Monday Night Countdown, Thomas will announce his retirement at the end of this week, choosing not to play this season for the Chiefs who signed him on Apr. 11 with a one-year, $2 million deal.

The seven-time All-Pro was picked out of Texas Tech by the Miami Dolphins in 1996’s fifth-round draft and began to star in Miami for 12 years. His undersized frame but prolific tacking helped change other teams’ decision on choosing linebackers to preferring smaller, high-energy players.

He overcame ankle and shoulder injuries in 2005 and managed to record a 10th-straight 100-tackle season. That is likely why he was believed to be a surefire Hall of Famer.
