By rushing 800 yards for November only, the Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson earned himself the title of the AFC offensive player for the month. Johnson appreciates being given the title, but he will not rest satisfied with that achievement.
Although he is the first player ever wearing Titans jersey to win this award since Steve McNair won it in October 2003, Johnson has set a higher goal: to break Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards which was made in 1984 while Dickson was playing with the Los Angeles rams. Already leading the NFL with 1,396 rushing yards, Johnson has five games to realize his promise.
Johnson is already tying some record set by Dickerson. He has rushed for at least 125 yards in six straight games, a record only reached by Dickerson in 1984 and Hall of Famer Earl Campbell in 1980. And Johnson is doing even better than Dickerson in average yards per carry: he is the first players in NFL history to average 5 yards or better per carry in each of those six games, and the previous best record was made by Jim Brown who made it in five games in 1958.
