Ranking the last following the 2009 season, the St. Louis Rams have a lot of problems to solve if they want to make improvements in new season, and one of the biggest problem lies in the running back. With a workhorse like Steven Jackson, the Rams, however, lack a great backup running back to replace when Jackson needs a break.
The Rams used to have two running backs behind Jackson: Brian Leonard and Chris Ogbonnaya, and now they still have only two but not exactly the same two, as Leonard was trade to the Cincinnati Bengals last year and third-year veteran Kenneth Darby was acquired from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008. But none of three running backs ever gave out satisfying performance.
Their hope is now lying on former Philadelphia Eagles star running back Brian Westbrook, who was released by the Eagles at the beginning of offseason because of injury and appeared in Michael Irvin jersey recently in St. Louis. If Westbrook is willing to help the Rams as a backup role, the Rams will surely be much better. But the problem is, Westbrook played as starter previously with the Eagles, so it’s very unlikely for him to accept an offer of backup job with one of the worst NFL teams.
